As Product Lead for OVO’s new solar business, I have been working to set up a whole new solar installation process with accompanying technology and understand not only the complexities of solar, but also what customers understand about it and need from it.

Talking to customers who were trying to buy solar online showed they were having a number of problems- they couldn’t find prices, they had to fill out information they weren’t sure of, and they didn’t know who to trust.
The signup flow my team developed solved these problems- with just two simple questions, customers could see indicative prices for their property, and could quickly access expert help and an accurate quote without a visit to their property.
Grid Flexibility
The proposition makes it possible for customers to access the benefits of grid flexibility by getting a battery alongside their solar. We are currently testing propositions to allow customers to save even more money by buying energy times when the grid has more renewable energy.
